Description
The culmination of more than 25 years in high-performance loudspeaker design, the SCR-3215sm was first conceived as an exercise to push the performance envelope to its limits… to satisfy our own curiosity. To remove all compromise from the technical equation, the project demanded that no expense be spared in the selection of drivers. Performance alone would be the criteria.
The SCR-3215sm reference screen channel loudspeaker stands over 7 feet in height and weighs in at nearly 350 pounds per speaker. Its dual 15-inch woofers provide a low frequency sensitivity of 102dB with 1 watt of input power while moving air with over 350 square inches of surface area. And move air it does! Each low frequency driver is supported by dual ports and powered by a massive motor system weighing nearly 30-pounds. With 4-inch voice coils, thermal power handling is maximized, allowing the SCR-3215sm to play at live concert sound pressure levels for extended periods of time without fear of driver failure. To unlock the potential of each 15-inch driver, each unit is terminated to an individual set of binding posts; then powered by a dedicated 1000 watt amplifier channel via a companion PRO DPA-1002. As with all PRO cinema loudspeakers, proprietary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) is employed to provide all crossover functions, time correction, and very high resolution frequency response shaping, eliminating restrictive passive filter networks from the signal path. Since signal filtration is achieved prior to amplification, the output stage of each amp channel is directly wired to the input terminals of its associated driver, maximizing power transfer and control. Bass is tight and accurate, and delivered with the same visceral slam experienced in the commercial theater or concert setting.
At the heart of the SCR-3215sm’s mid/high frequency assembly is a 41-pound ultra high-output (114dB / 1 watt) compression driver. Its 7-inch carbon fiber diaphragm provides pistonic motion over three and one half octaves, resulting in the most effortless, coherent, and dynamically correct rendering of vocals and instrumentation possible. Dispersion and acoustic power transfer are controlled via a 28.5”-square constant directivity horn with over 800 square inches of effective radiating surface – more than 40 times the radiating area of a typical cone midrange.
High frequencies for the SCR-3215sm are supplied via a TAD compression driver utilizing a beryllium diaphragm for silky smooth treble and uncolored harmonics to beyond 30 kHz. Mated to a large format 18” x 22” horn, the high frequency system provides 396 square inches of radiating surface to drive the air; or the equivalent of more than 500 one-inch dome tweeters per speaker. As in commercial cinema systems, the SCR-3215sm mid/high frequency assembly employs bi-amplification to maximize the performance of each driver in the system.
Engineered as a statement product, the SCR-3215sm and companion DPA amplifiers are part of a sophisticated digital cinema system employing advanced DSP to redefine the industry’s concept of “accuracy” and sonic realism. Maximum output is >140 dB, making the SCR-3215 the definitive loudspeaker of choice for large to very large room applications… and those who desire the live rock concert experience daily!
